Sadly, not all makeup is created equally. Everything needs to be replaced after a certain amount of time and, quite frankly, it can be really confusing.
Have you ever noticed the expiration on your beauty products? Most of them have a little graphic with the amount of time the product will be good to use (after opening). Try to keep track of when you bought the product and use the expiration as a guide. Of course, if you have a product that is only supposed to last three months, and you use it for three months and a few days, it won't kill you. This is really only to give you a good idea as to when it's time to get rid of old beauty items.
If you don't see this graphic on your product, or you simply don't have any idea when you opened it, don't fret. There are five key ways to tell when a product has expired.
1.) Changes in odor
2.) Color shifting
3.) Change in texture
4.) Microbial contamination (If you see any black spots or fuzzy growth in your product, it could be contaminated with bacteria or fungus! That gives me the heebie-jeebies!)
5.) Physical separation into layers
If a product has any of these signs, chuck it. And hey, it's a great excuse to buy more makeup!
