Fashionably Late...

Sorry, ladies! I know I haven't posted for a few days.  I'm actually moving (not the blog, but in real life to a new apt)!!! So it's been taking up tons of time.  Especially for me, since I own a ridiculous (and possibly illegal) amount of makeup, clothing and accessories.  Needless to say, packing has been a nightmare.

But, believe me, I hate being unable to write about girly things just as much as you hate that I'm not writing anything!

I should be moved in by Wednesday or so, so expect some delightful posts by the end of next week!  In the meantime, read up on some of my old entries for fun!

Stay Fabulous!!

Groovy Baby: Tie-Dye is Back

I've always loved tie-dye, as long as it isn't over-the-top, like a tee with 548935 colors and a peace symbol on it.  And we've all seen that. Ew.

These Silk Tie-Dye Slips from Victoria's Secret tickle my fancy. The colors are both fabulous and I love the color block on the bottom.  The tie-dye technique is unique too.

Now, I realize that these are slips and are meant to be worn as such.  But honestly, these could easily be worn out as summery beach dresses. Paired with the right accessories, you could even wear them out to a casual cocktail party!

Each slip is on sale for $34.99, which is a great deal for something so pretty.

What??!? New Kotex Neon Products

While doing my usual shopping in the beauty/pharmacy section of Target, I had to stop myself from screaming horror-movie-style when these neon lady products took over my line of vision.

Kotex has a new collection. That sounds so weird. But apparently in the "that-time-of-the-month" industry, times are rough and the need to differentiate yourself is key.  So hmm...what would make lady products more unique? Better quality perhaps? Nope! NEON TAMPONS AND PADS.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I don't tend to show off my tampons each month. And if anyone came up to me with a tampon wrapped in neon green to show it off, I'd probably punch them.

The world simply isn't ready for us gals to prance around with neon tampons peeking out of our purses. And I hope that if that day ever comes, I won't be around to see it.

Honeydew Intimates GIVEAWAY!!!

Finding the right pair of panties is like finding your soul mate.  I can't tell you the number of panties I own that are in the very back of my underwear drawer because they aren't comfortable, cute or simply just give me a wedgie everytime I put them on.

Enter Honeydew Intimates. They've got all sorts of fab lingerie, but the panties are the best.  Their boyshorts are fabulous and the most comfortable thing I've ever put on.  Though they're called "boyshorts", I'd say that the panties are cut a little higher than the average boyshort, which is an advantage.

The panties cover up while being incredibly comfy and they're absolutely adorable at the same time!

I have a pair of the boyshorts pictured, the Polka Dot Printed Mesh Boyshort, to giveaway to a lucky reader! Just an FYI: the pair I've got are size medium, but they're quite stretchy, so I image they would fit most body types.

To enter, send an email to sassyalana@gmail.com with the subject line reading "HONEYDEW BOYSHORTS".  The giveaway ends 6/24 and the winner will be alerted via email.

Good luck, ladies!!

This Just in: Kate Spade Sample Sale!!!

Oh Kate Spade, how I love thee. The prices? Not so much.  Even though Kate Spade is relativity cheap, considering other designer's $20,000 handbags. But that still doesn't mean that I can afford them.  Although with a 75% off sale?? It's possible.

The items on sale are delightful, to say the least.  There are cute handbags of course, my fave being the Barrow Street Shopper.  But also included in the sale are tons of other cute things--personally, I'm a fan of the makeup bags.

This adorable Beauty Shop Small Henrietta bag is a mere $30 and is so cute that I'd even use it as a clutch for going out.  And yes, there are bottles of pills and random pills strewn across the bag along with other "beauty" necessities.

If you want in on this sale, act fast.  This stuff goes amazingly quickly!!

LORAC Palettes on the Cheap!

LORAC always has amazing makeup, but more often than not, the prices are quite hefty for a girl with my makeup budget (usually around $0).

But I think I can make an exception for this Snake Charmer palette. I saw this a couple years ago at Sephora and fell in love with it. It was $35. I basically left the store in tears sans the palette of my dreams.

Now? It's $10.99.

I am so excited about this.  The palette in itself is so gorgeous.  The eyeshadow colors are highly pigmented, universally-flattering shades and the blush is a great pinky/coral hue that works on everyone.

For the brave ladies out there, LORAC is also selling their Pink Python palette for the same price.  The colors are a bit bolder, but the quality is just the same.

Get the Look for Less: Key Necklaces

If you're anything like me, you haven't got $685793678462378 to throw around aimlessly at baubles. If you do happen to have that leisure, then perhaps this isn't the blog for you. And also, go to hell.

Tiffany & Co. has been my obsession ever since I knew it existed. "Breakfast at Tiffanys" is my all-time fave movie. I have a pretty strong connection with the store...if it were socially acceptable, I'd ask the store out on a date. The tiny blue boxes all wrapped up in bows with the cutest of accessories tucked inside just captivate me.  In the past, I've found some decent deals on ebay, but they've still been pricey.
I'm really into their latest Tiffany Keys collection [on left]. The prices range from about $200 to $6,000 for each pendant (not including the chain). They are so cute though and I want one more than anything in the world (I fully realize that I say that about something at least once a week)!

So, I did some digging around and weirdly enough, Avon has a decent knockoff [on right]. Their Key to my Heart necklace is pretty cute.  Admittedly it's not nearly as great as the real deal, but it gets extra points from me for incorporating hearts into the design.

And it's on sale for $7.99. Yippee!

Spring Tote for $6 at Bath and Body Works!

Everyone needs a tote bag.  Or, in my case, 20. I'm really diggin' this fab tote from Bath and Body Works.  The Pink Summer Fun Tote is simply pretty and ultra adorable.

First of all, it's pink and has an adorable faux chain strap, complete with a cutesy flower and other spring-esque doodads all over it. This is the perfect tote for spring/summer; I just love it! It's actually quite surprising because I don't recall Bath and Body Works ever having bags that I've liked this much.  But this tote is definitely a winner in my book (or blog, i guess).

The best part is that it's only $6 with any Bath and Body Works purchase. The tote is exclusively online and has been marked down from $20. Soooo...yeah. Get one while they last!

The Cutest, Girliest Earrings Ever

These earrings are me in earring form. If reincarnation is in my future, I'm shooting to become a pair of these little delights.

CutseyGirl, a website I just barely found and am now in love with, has these adorable Rhinestone Adorned Satin Bow Drop Earrings.  How cute are they?!

Here are the three reasons that I love them:
1.) They are pink.
2.) They have polka dots.
3.) There is a tiny rhinestone right above each bow.

Basically I can't find anything wrong with these earrings. They're a little preppy, which is often something I go for in the summer, but could also be paired with a full-on black outfit with some hardware (studs, chains, etc) to tone down the girliness.

Each pair is $7.99.

"Marathon Hold" Hair Gel. Sign Me Up.

So my hair basically eats any styling product I put in it.  I can go through multiple cans of mouse and gel in a week.  I don't know what happens... I always buy "strong hold" products and after application everything looks great (but of course my hair isn't completely dry due to the water in gel and mousse).  By the time it dries, I honestly look as if I just did nothing with my hair and the result is a frizzy 'fro.

As I was stocking up on mini hand cream and mousse for the "emergancy kits" I keep in my purse and at work, a new item grabbed my attention.  Dep Sport's Endurance Gel Marathon Hold. First of all...what??!!? The marathon hold claim interested me the most. If this gel can actually hold up through any sort of marathon, then it just might work on my product-eating hair.

I bought the trial size (hey it was $1!) and was amazed with the results. Despite the fact that this is marketed as a men's product, it does not smell like aftershave (one of my immediate concerns) and is simply free of any fragrance at all.

After washing my hair, I was actually excited to give this stuff a go! On wet hair, it works amazingly (thought I also did my daily ritual of dumping frizz serum all over my head). Once it was dry, I was left with beautiful bouncy curls!  I also tried it out on semi-dry hair one day when I was at work and it def gave my hair a pick-me-up.

I must warn you though--since it's so ridiculously strong, the product is a bit difficult to get out. Not horribly so, but just make sure to shampoo vigorously!!

The best part? You can get a 12oz bottle of the gel for under $4. So screw you, fancy-pants expensive gels that don't even work!!!

Summer Bag Obsession: Roxy's Wild Side Bag

Oooooo! I love a good handbag (obviously) and I love pink things (again, obvious).  The problem I sometimes have is that a completely pink bag can be a bit much and end up looking...well, unfashionable.

I found this adorable bag from Roxy.  I never think to look there, but when I saw their delightful Wild Side Bag, I knew that I had found my summer bag.

With its adorable pink stripes, the bag has a preppy look to it, but not overwhelmingly so.  Surprisingly, the bag is fairly large (15"h x 22"w x 7.75"d.). So, it's not for the ladies who can carry around tiny little bags all day.  This is the real deal--a bag for gals like me who carry their entire lives in their handbag daily.

Each bag is $32, which is an amazing deal!! It'd also look super cute with a little scarf tied to the strap!

Fashion Faux Pas: Men Wearing Sandals

Okay, okay.  I know it's a bit mean to say that all men should give up sandals.  I get that it's hot outside, and that maybe you happen to be one of those guys who has decent-looking feet (by the way, I've never ever encountered this).

So I'm just throwing it out there:  men should not wear sandals. ever. I know that guys aren't really concerned with fashion, but this is one thing that should be obvious.  Think of it this way:  you button up a shirt to conceal chest hair.  For that same reason, you should cover your feet.  No one wants to see hairy feet. No one finds it attractive (unless there is some sort of fetish group I'm unaware of).

I do feel bad because I know that sandals are super comfy in the summertime and wearing sneakers can be a pain on super hot days.  I feel for you.  But women go through waaaaay more obstacles in life (read: every month when our girly parts virtually go crazy).  So, this is simply your cross to bare.

So guys, if you ever want to meet a woman, or just don't want to look ugly, please ditch the mandals.

And no, adding socks does not make them more appealing.

The Most Amazing Makeup Palette(s) Ever. Really.

Okay, so when I saw this, I first stared at it with lust for a little while, and then had to take a minute to compose myself.

Sephora's Color Play 5 in 1 palette is pretty much amazing. First of all it's filled to the brim with 50 eyeshadows, 10 lip colors and 5 blush shades. That on it's own is enough to give me a seizure of delight.

But it gets even better--the palette has 5 sub-palettes that pop out. Each has a different feel to it and is fairly portable. How cool is that??!

I've always been a fan of Sephora's own makeup line.  The quality is great and very affordable. What's not to love?

You can get your very own fabbity-fabulous 5 in 1 palette for about $30. Yes, really.

I'm All A-flutter with OPI's Summer Collection!

OPI's second Summer 2010 release, Summer Flutter gives me butterflies! Okay, very cheesy, but the collection is fab.

Basically, the collection includes bright and sunny shades, perfect for summer.  The colors are bright, unique and all look super divine on. These shades are not for the weak--they really stand out.  If you're wary of wearing brights on your nails, try these on your toenails!

Here's a rundown of the shades and the descriptions (from left to right):

Catch Me in Your Net: Okay, I'm a pink polish girl at heart, but this color is honestly my fave from the collection.  It's a sparkly blue shade with a hint of green to it.  Application-wise, it only took me about two medium-thick coats to have my nails covered with the sparkly goodness.

Flit a Bit: Orange is everywhere this season. So I wasn't surprised to see it here! The color is simply a bright orange. It literally looks like they took an orange (the fruit) and squeezed it into a bottle.  The polish is a cream and applies like a dream. It's pretty wearable--the color even flatters my ridiculously pale skin!

Flower-to-Flower: This shade is bright pink at its best. It's a cream, so application is easy. It looks a little bit neon and is a bit brighter than in the picture. You ladies know how I am about pink.  It's safe to say this will be used a lot over the next few months!

Wing it!: Like Catch Me In Your Net, this polish is also a shimmer.  The color is difficult to describe--the picture doesn't really do it justice. It has a pink base with a bit of red and orange thrown in. It looks so pretty on! The shade is a little more sheer than the shimmer hue above, but after a few coats my nails were sparkle-tastic. I really love this polish; I've never seen this color before (which is pretty surprising, as I own 55743895743 nail polishes). If you purchase only one hue from the collection, make it this one!

You can purchase any (or all!) of the shades at salons and spas nationwide including chains like JC Penney Salons, Regis, Trade Secret, ULTA, etc.

Orange is the new Black

I'm obsessed with orange right now.  I never really thought about the color until recently.  I tried on a few dresses, grabbed an orange one just for the hell of it, and loved the results.

Now, despite the fact that I've been outside a bunch and it's just about summertime, my skintone is exactly the same: transparent white.  It really never changes.  The orange dress actually seemed to embrace my color and make me glow!  It's a flattering color for most skintones, and this spring and summer season, I'm seeing it all over the place.

The great thing is that orange comes in tons of different variations.  You can find a shade with a little pink in it, or even a little yellow, and find the perfect shade for you.

Here are a few of my fave orange pieces (in order from left to right, pictured above):

Heritage 1981's Summer Strollin' Dress (24.90): The dress is a great vibrant orange with a hint of red to it.  The cut is ultra flattering and utterly adorable.  Plus, how can you beat the price?!

Forever21's Flower Enamel Ring ($4.80): Cocktail rings are one of my many weaknesses.  This one is great for night or day and would be a great focal point of any outfit.

Target's Hollywood Intuition Nylon Crossbody
($14.99): Amazingly cute.  Check out the lining too.  If you aren't into crossbody bags (I'm not a fan myself), I like to knot the strap and make it shorter, thus creating a super cool shoulder bag instead.

Revlon's Nail Enamel in Hot Tamale ($4.79): Almost a coral-y hue, this color looks universally great on everyone.  Yes, everyone.  You can quote me on that.

So ladies, ditch your black frocks for now and orange-ify yourself!

Disposable Panties: Use 'em and Lose 'em

Is it me, or do these seem eerily close to adult diapers? At this point of my life, I cannot say I've ever thought to myself gosh, I wish I had some panties that I could use once and then throw away!

The whole idea with these is that they're targeted towards people who take business trips and those who simply want to "be prepared".  The logic is that they fit in your purse, and since you always have your purse nearby,  you'll never be stuck without a fresh pair of panties.

I am so baffled by this. First of all, the disposable panties are the EXACT SAME SIZE as regular ones. So how is it that they are so handy because they fit in your purse? Umm...if you really feel the need to carry around extra undies, just throw a normal pair in with your first aid kit, extra sewing kit and anything else you haul around "just in case".

From looking at the picture, these throw-away panties do not look comfy.  At all. Unless they're wrapped in something, the material looks like what you'd see on a fabric softener sheet.  After it had been used.

It all boils down to either having these in your purse for no reason, or actually having some sort of elaborate disaster and wearing uncomfortable panties (that you'll probably tug at all day).

The disposable panties, are cheap (thank God) at $3 for a pack of two.

Clinique always has the best Gifts with Purchase deals.  Honestly, I've yet to be let down.  Their spring one at Nordstrom is my fave.

What's Pissing Me Off Right Now: Knockoff Vera Bradley Bags

If you've ever even glanced at this blog, then you're well aware of my hatred for the fashionably horrifying, quilted floral-patterned, overpriced Vera Bradley bags (if not, check out my rant here).  But what I hate even more than those bags are knockoff versions.

Apparently Vera Bradley bags are so stylish and popular that everyone wants one--and some people simply can't afford a real one. The world's solution: pretend Vera Bradley bags for about half the price.  Now, I'm all about saving money when buying handbags--I've been known to purchase a few knockoff bags myself (albeit they're fashionable and super duper gorgey).

I just don't get the appeal.  Here's the thing:  My grandmother loves these bags.  And I encourage that.  They're perfect for her sewing things and just for toting her stuff around town.  But anyone under the age of 60 should not be carrying anything that even slightly resembles a Vera Bradley bag.

I've been living in Portsmouth, NH for about a year now and there are a lot of college-aged kids.  To my amazement, I'd say that around 40% (maybe even 50%) of them carry around little Vera Bradley bags.  And I'm pretty sure they think it's stylish, as the rest of their outfits are usually not terrible.  Is this a NH thing?  I'd rather see people use a cheap garbage bag than a "Vera". I get so angry when I see it them I shake and my boyfriend has to calm me down.  I'm talking medical problems here!!

For the love of God, cut it out.  If you want to have an ugly quilted bag, fine.  It's your choice, and I will continue to hate you.  But a knockoff bag of a bag that's already relativity cheap?  Well, that's just sad.

That is all.

Oribe's Lastest Hairspray is Super Fine (insert sassy snapping)

Oribe's products are usually always at the top of my list when it comes to hair products.  Everything I've ever tried from them has been of the best quality.

Their Superfine Hairspray did not disappoint.  It's a medium-hold spray that leaves hair looking pretty, touchable and yet still manages to keep hair in place.

I've tried practically 5437859739 different hairsprays in my lifetime and there are a few things that bother me--most of the sprays I find have one or all of these qualities:
1.) It's sticky
2.) You end up with rock solid hair after use.
3.) It smells bad.
4.) It doesn't hold.
5.) If you try to style anything after application, it flakes off leaving you with white flakes all over your hair a la dandruff.
6.) You hair looks dull after use.

LUCKILY, Oribe's hairspray does not have any of these horrifying qualities. It somehow has the perfect mix of holding power and flexibility.  And it left my hair looking shiny and healthy.  The spray also has a ultra-dry finish, so you won't end up with wet sticky hair after you spray it on (which always happens to me and when I'm in a rush, the spray is left wet in my hair and reignites my curls giving me weird afro-chic curls atop my head).

So basically, it's the perfect hairspray.

Get some of your own for $29 and you'll be feeling super fine in no time! (cheesy? yes...too much? maybe.)

Three Dresses in One--ON SALE!!!

I stumbled upon this little frock the other day and just had to share it with you ladies.  American Apparel's Jersey Convertible Bandeau Dress is my new fave dress in the entire world.  The jersey material makes it comfy to wear, the cut is super flattering and the three looks you can create are all adorable.

I have to share a secret with you.  Not really a secret.  More of an awesome piece of info.  The dress is only $30. So, in my mind, that's $10 per look. And it just looks like the type of dress that would work for any occasion.  Pair it with pearls and heels for a night out, or throw on some flip flops with it for a day at the beach. I think this is it.  This is the absolute perfect dress (for now).

It also comes in other colors (but aqua is so great for summer): pink, navy and black.  They're going crazily quickly though, so if you want one, buy it now!
