ELF's New Fall Collection!

Eyes Lips Face is such an amazing makeup brand.  I've reviewed tons of their products and have yet to try anything that I haven't liked.  So, it's understandable that I get super excited when they come out with new products!

As I was perusing Target a couple days ago, I saw a gorgeous makeup collection that was super cheap and it turned out that it was ELF's new Fall collection (exclusively for Target). The entire line looks very expensive, pretty and functional to boot! The look of the products is a golden python theme.  Totally gorgeous and right on trend for the season.

Unfortunately, I can't find anywhere to purchase the items online at the moment--even Target's website doesn't offer them, so you have to actually go to the store.  I do, however, have some pictures of a few of my fave products (borrowed from some of my fellow bloggers!).

Python polish and nail files

Closer look at the polish

Eye brushes

Python beauty books

Everything looks so fab, right?! There are also some cute mini tweezers, eyelash curlers, and a couple other things I'm sure I'm forgetting.  And just like their normal collections, this one seems to be of good quality, while costing very little.

Personally, I'm in love with the nail polish. I want one in every color--they're too cute.

Check out your local Target and stock up on these goodies before they're gone!

The Look For Less: Flower Necklace

I have to say, I'm much more of an earring person than a necklace person.  But these dainty flower necklaces are simply adorable.  They both have a vintage feel, which I love, and look like they could be worn with nearly every outfit.

Here's the thing: these two baubles look almost identical and have the same overall look. But one of them is almost $100 more expensive.  The necklace on the left is from Forever21 and retails for $1.50. The other necklace is from Marc Jacobs and costs almost $100.

Crazy, right?

I mean, I'm sure that there's a little difference in the quality, but for the most part the necklaces are the same. They both look expensive, pretty, and can be worn anytime during the year.

All of that said, I have to admit that I'm actually a huge fan of Marc Jacobs--especially the accessories.  I was originally planning on just writing about the more expensive necklace because I found it first, but I randomly stumbled upon the cheaper version and fell in love...All over again.

So it's up to you--spend $100 for the brand, or under $2 for the look. It's a pretty easy choice for me!

Get Gorgeous Hair with Rusk's Leave -In Treatment

If you read this blog a lot, then you know that I have a ridiculously hard time finding hair products that work for me.  My natural hair is, what I like to call, "wavy/frizz/grossness".  Mainly, I just have really thick hair (both in the actual amount of hair and in the strands themselves).  I also color my hair frequently and use heat styling almost on a daily basis.  So I think it's fair to say that my hair wins at being the worst hair ever.

Because of that, it's really important for me to use products that repair the damage and make it look healthy.

My new love? Rusk's W8Less Multi 12 in 1 Miracle Leave-In Treatment. It's a fabulous lightweight spray that is great for controlling frizz while amazingly somehow adding volume and body to the hair.  It literally does everything you could possibly want for your hair, regardless of your hair type. I mean, it's basically 12 products in one, so how can it not work?

Here's a rundown of the 12 different miracles the treatment preforms:

  1. Acts as a superior cutting lotion
  2. Repairs dry, damaged hair
  3. Adds manageability and silky condition
  4. Strengthens
  5. Gives weightless body
  6. Smooths and detangles
  7. Tames and controls frizz
  8. Conditions and moisturizes
  9. Delivers incredible shine
  10. Provides thermal defense
  11. Equalizes porosity, seals and protects
  12. Extends the life of hair color, straightening and other chemical services

Pretty cool, right? After reading over the list, I gave the product a try and made sure to see if it actually did everything it claimed.

And...I LOVED it!!!!

I definitely did notice a huge difference in my hair immediately. It was easier to comb out my hair after washing, my hair felt a lot smoother, and it did seem to protect my hair from all my crazy heat styling.  I really felt like it made my hair much more manageable.

The best part is that, because it's virtually weightless, my hair didn't look greasy or flat after use.  It actually looked bouncy and shiny. I've really never used a product that both smooths and conditions while adding volume.

To use, simply spray on damp, washed hair and comb through. Style as usual.

The verdict? Sassy Fashionista approved!

A "Gilty Pleasure" for Your Nails

Oh my God, I want this gift set more than anything else in the world (at least for today).

Zoya has come out with a fabulous holiday gift set that's perfect for gals who want some bling on their digits. Their Gilty Pleasures set contains the following three full-size bottles of polish:

  • Raven - a shiny black
  • Purity - pure white
  • Gilty - 18K gold flake top coat

Yeah.  That's right. Real 18K gold you can wear on your fingertips. It's luxury at its' finest.  I have a feeling that I'll end up using the Gilty top coat a ton, because who doesn't want to wear real gold on their fingertips?!

The amazing top coat looks great with the included hues, but you can also wear it alone, or play around with different colors underneath.  I'd love to do it with a deep red for Christmas!

This super glam set is extremely limited.  I cannot stress that enough.  Everyone in the beauty world is going crazy for it, so you have to make a move fast. It's highly recommended that you pre-order the set now for mid-October delivery to secure that you actually get your hands on it.

Each set is $30.  Not bad for golden nails!

Curations Scarf GIVEAWAY!

Nothing's hotter this season than animal print. Especially leopard print. The thing about this particular print is that, even though it's trendy, it's also a classic, almost seasonless, pattern. I probably own over 30 leopard print items of clothing and accessories--that's how much I love it!

This season, leopard print is being updated with a punch of color. This Curations with Stefani Greenfield Printed Scarf is a perfect example. The gray in the pattern makes it neutral enough to wear everyday, while the pop of dark fuchsia makes a fun and unique accessory.

The scarf itself is adorable. It's super soft and the quality is amazing. The weight is perfect; just heavy enough for Fall and early Winter, yet lightweight enough for Spring.

Lucky for you ladies, I have one of these fab scarves to give away! It's on crazy high demand, so scoring it here is a pretty big deal. You can enter the giveaway below, and check out some of the other gorgey patterns Curations has to offer here.

Good luck!

Pee Like a Man!

Finally, the answer to my prayers!! A product for women everywhere who want the ability to pee standing up: the Magic Cone.

I can't tell if I just think this product is hilariously ridiculous or if I genuinely love it.  In all honesty, I've been saying for years that girls should just carry around funnels or something for when they go camping, etc...that all came from growing up in the middle of nowhere in New Hampshire.  But I still like the idea.

Now, as far as I can tell, the cone isn't exactly magical. It does not, for example, make women magically grow penises.  But it is convenient for road trips, bumpy bus trips, plane rides, or just if you want to freak out your boyfriend by peeing with the bathroom door open while you stand.

I have to say, I was a little disappointed when I found out that the cone is cardboard, rather than plastic. I mean, yeah...I get it. It's not like I'd throw the Magic Cone in the dishwasher.  But I worry that the cardboard would just get wet and the whole thing could be messier than simply squatting.

Even so, it's definitely worth a try.  You can get three biodegradable cones for under $4.

For Ladies Who Love Lipstick

In my last post, I wrote about how to have perfect red lips. Of course that lead to an evening of me searching every online store out there for anything lipstick-related.

The Red Lipstick Necklace from Expressions by Cheree is my top pick. It has everything a necklace should have.  It's simple, has a little bling, and goes with any outfit! It's a necklace that says, "Hell YEAH I love lipstick!" The quality looks excellent and appears to look much more expensive than it actually is. Even though it's more of a novelty necklace, there really isn't a time when you can't wear it.

The pendant also comes in an adorable pink hue. I really love them both. Whether you wear red lipstick, or stick with pink, your necklace can match your makeup!

Since they're only $25 each, I recommend getting both!

Also, check out the entire site--there are actually a lot of affordable jewelry pieces that are unique, handmade, and even one-of-a-kind.

Do Red Lips the Right Way

One of my fave makeup products is bright red lipstick. It's glamorous, classic, and will never go out of style.

I know a lot of ladies are scared to try red lips. I've heard, "red lipstick just looks bad on me" a lot.  But my theory is that when they've tried red in the past, it's been a shade that simply didn't compliment their skintone.  Because I know for a fact that everyone can wear red lipstick.

Like most makeup, there can be a lot of trial and error while finding the perfect red. But once you find shades that work for you, it's fun to play around with different hues within your own red spectrum.

Cool skintones (your skin has pink or bluish-red undertones) often look best in blue-based reds or reds with hints of pink, fuchsia or rose.

Warm skintones (your skin has a yellow or olive undertone) should consider orange-ish (tomato-red), burgundy or bronze-inspired reds, which play up the golden or olive undertones of your skin and eye color.

Here's an idea of what I'm talking about:

Keep this in mind while shopping or testing out different reds.  As long as you stay within the basic guidelines, there's room to experiment.  And when you've got red lips, you can tone down the rest of your makeup! So it ends up being a time-saver. Win-win!

Currently, Sephora has a fab red lip set that's on sale for $30 (a $68 value). It contains a universally flattering red hue, a pink color, and a nude shade, so you can layer them to get your perfect look.  Otherwise, red lipstick is everywhere. Take a look around and see what tickles your fancy!

Face Faux Pas: Bagelheads

Umm...yeah. I've been hearing about this whole "bagelhead" trend for the past few days and finally had to do some research because I honestly didn't think it was a real thing.

But unfortunately, the Japanese have decided to up their weirdness factor by coming up with this ridiculous body modification fad.  There are literally thousands of pictures, of those who proclaim themselves bagelheads, strewn all over the internet.

Okay, so the look itself is pretty bad.  But even worse than the result is what these bagelheads do in order to look like they have something living under their skin.  Using a saline solution drip, bagelheads are injected by professional piercers in a specific location, which causes a ton of inflammation and swelling. Then the area can be molded and dented in to their liking. Using food dye, you can even color your bump!

The process takes about two hours. And it only lasts for one night.

Totally worth it, right??!

Now one thing to keep in mind is that using this technique can be used virtually anywhere on your bod. People have been seen inflating their boobs, booty, arms and everywhere you can imagine to get a cartoon-esque look that drives the opposite sex wild…or makes them run away screaming.

Side affects may include headache, infection, skin stretching, a pressure sensation, a slight case of wonky eye, oh yeah, and a swollen body part that looks like it needs some cream cheese

I can't even believe that people are doing this! If you want a new look for a night, throw on a temporary tattoo.

Looking for more disgusting details? Here's a video that shows the entire, horrifying process:

The Most Ladylike Bag for Fall

As everyone in the entire world knows, I'm crazily addicted to handbags.  I own a ton and honestly I cannot go into a store without at least looking at their bags.  Sometimes I even spend hours just looking online for fab bags.

That's how I found this adorable Delia Quilted Bow Bag from Handbag Heaven.  First, I have to give props to Handbag Heaven.  They always have amazing, designer-inspired bags for decent prices. Love it!

This particular bag tickles my fancy to the max.  It's everything a girly handbag should be.  The bag is super feminine and goes with nearly any outfit.  You can wear it with a fancy dress, or with jeans and a t-shirt.  That's the mark of a really great purse, by the way. It also has tons of little pockets inside to store anything you might need for a night out.

I love the ballerina pink color with the black bow. Anything pink automatically goes on my wish list. And the colors together look unique and add a bit of glamour. That said, if you aren't really into pink, the handbag does come in black.

The bag is on sale for $42.46 (marked down from $83).  Totally worth it for such a pretty bag!

Need a Date? Adopt-a-Guy Has You Covered!

French men are hot.  It's not really even debatable. So, France decided to make a little money from this fact.

Their Adopte Un Mec (Adopt a Guy) store is a high-end boutique in Paris where you can literally shop for guys, and pick the one you like best.  The guys wear costumes and pose in glass containers--as if they were all Ken dolls--to allow the women to choose their fave.  They also pick out their own cute nickname like "Mr. Muscle" and "The Rocker". There's something for everyone!

It actually started out as an online "store", and they decided to branch out and do the real-life shopping thing.  Online, it's a bit more like a dating site, except that all the men have to post pictures, and only women can actually send messages to them.  The most hilarious thing is that there's a shopping cart on the site itself.  So it actually says "there are 0 men in your cart" until you purchase a guy!  Isn't that crazy??!

I think it's funny to reverse the roles a bit.  Usually it's women that are objectified, and these guys make a living off of it.  Of course there are people who are against the whole thing, but I have to say, I think it's a funny, neat idea.  And clearly France agrees.

If they open a shop in the U.S., I'm positive that women would be lining the streets to get their dream guy.

Here's quick clip that explains everything in detail.

5 Beauty Myths Exposed

I don't know where they come from, or why we believe them, but there are tons of beauty "tips" that simply are not correct.  They're lies! I've seen ladies swear by some of these myths, even though I've never noticed a difference in their appearance.

Here are some of the worst beauty myths and why they don't work.

Drinking water keeps your skin from drying out.I've seen this tip all over the place.  It's simply not true! What keeps skin moist is oil, not water.  There have actually been studies that compared the water content of dry skin to that of oily or normal skin, and there wasn't a difference.  Another point is that too much water can actually damage your skin. Think about how your skin looks after you take a long bath. Wrinkly, and often, dry.

Brushing your hair 100 strokes a day will make it shine. This actually does more damage than good.  Hair will break if you tug on it too much.  It can also lead to split ends.  Just stick to some gentle brushing and your hair will benefit greatly.

There's a product that can get rid of cellulite. It'd be amazing if this was true, but, alas, it's false. About 85% of women have cellulite and would absolutely love to get rid of it (myself included). The cosmetics industry, and lots of doctors and aestheticians, want to sell you products and provide treatments (especially the ridiculously expensive ones) that claim to slim, trim, tone, and de-bump your thighs, but if any of those worked, who would have cellulite?

Toothpaste works to prevent or quickly heal a pimple.Absolutely not true! I can understand why people think this. I mean, it fights bacteria in your mouth, so why shouldn't it fight bacteria on your skin? The thing is, none of the ingredients in toothpaste have a positive effect on skin, in any way.  It can even make matters worse. Toothpaste can cause inflammation and actually cause acne and redness.

Never pluck a gray hair, because 10 more will grow in its place. This is completely false. It's just ridiculous to think that pulling out one hair follicle can result in growing 10 more. If anything, ripping a strand of hair out by its root leads to regrowth that refuses to lie flat. So you'll end up with a funky strand in its place.

The next time you come across a beauty tip or a claim that sounds too simple, too good to be true, or even just crazy, you can count on it to be a big fat lie!

Fashion Faux Pas: Wearing Uggs in Warm Weather

As far as Ugg Boots go, I'm not a fan in general.  To be fair, some of the styles have potential to be cute.  I've seen people wearing them tucked into skinny jeans and leggings in the winter and it doesn't look too horrifying.

That said, it is never okay to wear Uggs when it's warm out.  I've seen a few people within the past couple weeks wandering around with conflicting outfits, much like the mystery celeb pictured.

It's ridiculous!!! If it's warm enough to throw on a skimpy, summery outfit, you simply do not need huge-ass winter boots to complete the look!  In fact, anytime your legs are fully exposed, fluffy boots look just plain stupid. And it totally ruins an outfit that could be cute with the right footwear.

Uggs are the type of boots that should be in the back of your closet for when you need something warm to wear during a snow storm. And I'm guessing that there are not any snow storms going on anywhere in the country right now.

The only positive thing about Uggs is that because they make your feet resemble those of a yeti, the rest of your bod looks skinny in comparison.  But is it really worth it?

There are plenty of comfy flats out there that can be worn year-round.  Stick to those for now and save the Uggs for never.

Say Yes to Healthy Hair!

I've always been a huge fan of Yes to Carrots skincare products.  They're mostly natural, don't irritate my super sensitive skin, smell amazing, and aren't crazily expensive.

Now, they've come out with a hair care line! Needless to say, I was super excited to try it out. Since my hair is quite damaged from heat styling etc., I went with their Yes To Blueberries Healthy Hair Repair Shampoo and Conditioner (there are a few different options, depending on your hair type).

I actually colored my hair recently, so it was basically at it's weakest state when I gave the duo a go.  The products are clinically proven to make hair look healthier in seven days.  Since I don't wash my hair daily, I tried it out for a couple weeks to get the full effect.

I could definitely feel and see a difference even after the first use.  My hair felt a bit more soft, and wasn't as tangled as it usually is after I wash it.  In fact, after I used the hair products a couple times, my boyfriend couldn't keep his hands off my hair (no joke)!  He just kept on stroking it and saying how smooth it felt and how he would love it if it was always like that. We were both fans of the smell too! Super yummy!

After the full two weeks, my hair feels even stronger and healthier.  I haven't changed anything having to do with my normal styling--I'm still using a flat iron a few times a week--and it still made a huge difference. I'm noticing that I actually don't need to use as many styling creams and serums when I wash with them. And I def spend a ton of money on hair products, so that saves me a ton right there!

This is the perfect gentle and natural solution for anyone who has damaged hair.  Heat styling, chemical processing, and just bad hair care can be super damaging to hair.  The products are formulated with blueberries to protect hair with anti-oxidants, clover flower for healing powers, and sunflower to restore shine and protect hair against breakage.

The products are also 98% natural, which I absolutely love.

You can get the duo yourself for $15.99, or buy them individually for $7.99 each. Much cheaper than some of the shampoo and conditioner treatments that claim to do the same thing, but don't even work as well!

The final verdict:  Sassy Fashionista approved!

What Does Your Nail Polish Color Say About You?

Are you more drawn to light pink hues, or bright blue polishes? Whatever color you tend to lean towards can say more than "I have pretty nails" (even though I'm sure they are super cute, regardless)!

Here's a list polish hues and what they say.

Red = You're sultry and glamorous.  It's been the ultimate glam polish practically forever.   It’s the most seductive of all colors and is timeless. Try Maybelline Color Show in Paint the Town.

Blue = You're fearless.  You might think of blue as a very tranquil color, but the electric hues that are popping up everywhere say otherwise.  Blue polish looks unique and is perfect for someone who wants to experiment with different looks. Orly in Shockwave is a great choice.

Gunmetal Gray = You’re unconventional.  The neutral shade can be almost as dark as black, or as light as white, but unlike those basic colors, gray tends to look more sophisticated and fashionable. OPI in Nein Nein Nein! OK Fine! is a fab gray hue.

Green = You’re dynamic. People tend to be scared to try out green polish, but since it's actually a complementary color to lots of other colors, you can wear it multiple ways.  It's a strong color that has a lot of power. Try Maybelline Color Show in Go Go Green.

Orange = You’re carefree.  It's a color that's playful, but can also be very exotic, depending on the shade. I'm loving Dermelect in Head Turner.

Muted Pink = You’re ladylike.  The color is kind of like a grown-up pink.  It's more mature, with a gray undertone.  This gives it an almost vintage feel. Deborah Lippmann in Modern Love is gorgeous!

Yellow = You’re an optimist. Surprise, surprise! Since yellow is usually associated with the sun and warmth, it gives off a real statement.  It's very extroverted and looks all-around happy. Try out Maybelline Color Show in Fierce N Tangy.

Purple = You’re creative. There are oodles of different variations of the color.  It's actually quite complex, as it's a mix of blue and red. That brings tranquil and dynamic colors together, which creates a unique tension. Purple polish isn't for someone who wants something simple. Zoya in Suri really stands out.

The Perfect Shoes for Fall!

Since it's officially September, the time has come to put away your cute summer wedges and flip flops.  I know--very sad.

Hopefully this will soften the blow.  Payless has a fab pair of shoes that just scream fall fashionista! Their Lambert Loafer Pumps, created by designer Christian Siriano, are def on my must-have list for the season.

I mean, how adorable are these heels?! They are the perfect mix of high fashion meets casual loafer. The shoes feature a pretty peep toe, penny loafer details, soft jersey lining and padded insole for comfort.  Pretty much perfect.

If you aren't a fan of the plaid, even though I think it's the cutest look, the pumps also come in solid brown or black hues.  Each pair is under $35, and Payless is currently having a BOGO sale--so stock up!

How Much Would You Spend on a Dress to Look 10 Pounds Skinnier?

Probably not $1,950.

A fashion trend this fall that's got everyone going wild is the illusion dress.  Basically, the dresses are cut and color-blocked in a way that makes you look a bit more slim.

Victoria Beckham, ever the fashionista, created the Cotton Twill-Trimmed Silk-Blend Dress and it does just that.  The problem? It is ridiculously expensive.  $1,950 is way more than anyone should spend on a dress, no matter how "amazing" it is. The thing the gets me the most is that the price of this dress is actually way more than a one-year gym membership! And I'm pretty sure that you can lose more than 10 lbs over the course of a year spent working out.

I do understand the idea of the dress. I get that it's cute and it certainly does create the illusion of having a tinier, more perfect, bod.  The thing is, illusion dresses are all over the place right now.  Even Charlotte Russe has a handful of them, like their Striped Illusion Dress. It's just as fabulous and costs a mere $20!

Even if you're not a fan of that particular dress, a quick search online brings up oodles of illusion dresses.

The lesson:  either lose weight for real, or find a dress that's in your budget!

Love Your Body--Victoria's Secret Style!

I honestly haven't tried a Victoria's Secret fragrance that I haven't fallen in love with.  Their latest Love My Body line is no exception.

The products come in a few different scents, but the one that's got me swooning is Jasmine & Water Lily. It's not overpowering, but does leave behind a fresh, sensual scent. The fragrance is a sweet interpretation of a jasmine floral base with some watery notes. It's very sweet and overtly feminine, which of course I love!

Another fun fact: All of the Love My Body products are infused with conditioning jojoba and glycerin to refresh and revive skin (bonus!!)

The best way to rock the scent and keep it lasting all day long is to layer the products. First, cleanse your bod with the Nearly Nude Body Wash. Immediately after showering, apply the super luxurious Amazing All Over Body Lotion, then spritz on the Can't Resist Body Mist.

Each of the products in the collection are under $15, or you can take advantage of their special 3/$24 deal.

A Gift With Purchase for Any Budget

Very few things make me as happy as makeup gifts with purchase.  Most GWPs contain products that I either want to try out, or have makeup staples that I always need more of.

Included in the set are the following deluxe samples:
  • Ojon® color sustain® Color Revealing Shampoo

Celebrate Fashion's Night Out with a FREE Cupcake!

When fashion and cupcakes combine, something magical happens.  I mean, a fashionable cupcake is simply more delicious. And since it's so trendy, you can just assume that it contains no calories and eating it is super stylish. Perfect, right?!

All four Georgetown Cupcake locations (Georgetown in Washington DC, Bethesda in Maryland, SoHo in New York, and Newbury Street in Boston) will be open until 11pm on Thursday (9/6) to celebrate Fashion's Night Out!

Bonus? They're giving away one free cupcake to each customer all day! And they even have a special "Runway Red Velvet" cupcake, which is available for you to pick as your freebie. Love it!

Find Your Perfect Eye Shadow Color

One of the most frequent questions I get as a beauty advisor is: what should I wear with my ________ eyes?  It's a valid question and when I first got into makeup, I admit it was a little tricky for me to figure out.

The easiest way to find the perfect color eye shadow to accentuate your gorgeous eyes, is to use a color wheel.  Find your eye color, look directly across from it, and you'll find a color that will make your eyes pop!

For example, I have green eyes, so wearing a purple hue on my lids tends to draw attention to my eyes and really make them stand out.  Ladies with blue eyes should go with gold/brown colors, and so on.

Give it a try!  You'll be surprised at the results!

Five Things You Can't Wear After This Weekend

I'm usually not a huge rule-follower when it comes to fashion trends.  But Labor Day weekend is officially the end of summer, when it comes to outfits.  There are a few things that simply need to be packed away until next summer.

Here's what needs to go to the back of your closet for the next few seasons:

White Jeans- Okay, I have to rant a little bit here. Honestly, I hate white jeans, even in the summertime.  Rarely are they flattering (white on your lower half simply makes you look larger), and it's nearly impossible to wear them for an entire day without getting a bunch of stains on them.  Still, if you've braved wearing them throughout the season, now's the time to pack them up!

Espadrille Wedges- Anything with a cork or wedge heel is simply banned after Labor Day.

Beach Cover-Ups as Dresses- During the summer season, it's totally acceptable to throw on a cute beach cover-up for cocktail parties and the like.  Unfortunately that time is over.

Straw Totes- Time to hang up anything that can double as a beach bag.

Anchor Prints- Yes, they were super adorable over the summer, but it's time to throw the pattern overboard for fall.

Believe me, it saddens me to stop wearing my summer duds.  Little white dresses and sandals have basically been my look for the entire season.  Luckily, there's a lot of fabulous fall trends to look forward to!
