Have a ridiculously amazing Christmas (or whatever you celebrate around this time of year)!

Up & Rising: Buy the Latest Fashions Without Breaking the Bank!

Fantastic new shopping site alert! Up & Rising is an incredible new online boutique that offers up something different--fashions from the greatest emerging designers from all over the world for extremely reasonable prices.

The site does all the work for you.  They find the best new fashion designers out there and sell their most gorgeous items all in one place.  It's the perfect site for anyone who wants to always look trendy and classy, but doesn't want to spend thousands of dollars to do it.

The site has oodles of gorgeous frocks to choose from.  Here are my current faves, pictured below, from left to right:

  1. Zoe Karssen Batman Shirt ($36.53) - This sleeveless tee is adorable. First of all, who doesn't love Batman?! Secondly, I love the fact that the infamous logo is a bit girlified. It's a great top to dress up or down, and the price simply can't be beat.
  2. The Fifth Flashing Lights Dress ($48.92) - Honestly, this is the perfect little black dress. It's effortless, sexy, and is flattering on all body types.
  3. Finders Keepers Jump Then Fall Bustier ($70.63) - I've said it over a million times: leopard print never goes out of style. The black and white print is perfect and it goes with anything. The cut of the top literally couldn't be more flattering, and the sassy slit on the side adds a little extra allure to the top. Love it!

The site also carries some super pretty accessories. My top pick?  This chic Nazar Silver Arrow Bracelet ($106.56). It's classically beautiful, and has a great message: stay on the right path and reach for your goals.

Take some time to check out the site for yourself--You won't be disappointed!

My Latest Obsession: a Clutch With Some Bling!

Forever21's fabulous Abstract Sequin Beaded Clutch has practically everything I look for in a bag.

It's no secret that I love anything glitzy, so obviously this bag with bling immediately caught my attention. I love the fact that the beading tones it down a bit, but the bag is still pretty glitzy. The size is great--it's got enough room to hold any essentials you need for a night out, but it's small enough that it won't be annoying to keep with you at all times.

The gold hue is actually a nice, neutral tone, so you can wear it with just about anything. You can easily pair the clutch with a little black dress for a holiday party, or use it to dress up your fave boyfriend jeans for a fun afternoon look.

Each bag is under $25, so you can afford it on nearly any budget.  In fact, if you've left some of your holiday shopping until the last minute, this fab clutch would make a delightful gift for any fashionable lady on your list.

The Look for Less: Liquid Liner

Liquid eyeliner is one of my must-have makeup staples. There's nothing more classic than simple eye makeup paired with a bold, liquid line above the top lashes. The look is flattering for all eye shapes, and adds a touch of glamour to any look.

After trying out tons of different liners, I've found that the easiest ones to apply are the marker-esque versions. If you can color with a magic marker, then trust me--you can apply liquid eyeliner in marker form with ease.

Once I figured that out, I found my very first fave liquid liner: LORAC's Front of the Line Pro Liquid Eyeliner. It applies like a dream, never dries out, and is super easy to apply. At $26, it always seemed completely worth it, since it saved me tons of time and effort. Honestly, I still love it and always have one in my makeup bag.

That said, I recently found a product that is basically identical to it for a mere $6.99! Jesse's Girl has an amazing Liquid Eyeliner that seriously seems to be almost exactly the same as its pricier competition.

I've tried both, and they really do work quite similarly, at least as far as I'm concerned.

My advice? Save the $20 and go with the drugstore liner this time around. Then you'll even have some cash left over to stock up on other fun makeup products! Win-win!

Happy shopping!

Pucker Up For the Holidays!

For all you lip gloss lovers, Sephora has oodles of fabbity-fabulous lip sets just in time for the holidays.  I probably spent over an hour browsing their lip sets alone today, and of course I've added basically every product the store has to offer to my ever-growing Christmas wish list (which is totally okay for a 29-year-old woman to have).

That said, I did find one set that gave me a bit of a seizure of delight.  Soap and Glory's Sexy Mother Pucker Total Kiss Up Lip Plumpers Set looks absolutely divine. I've been a huge fan of their plumpers for a while now, and this super sexy set is just calling out to my lips!

What I love most about their plumping gloss is that it really works (!!!), but doesn't irritate my lips, like others I've tried in the past.  The gloss is also very long-lasting, and simply feels amazing.

The colors included in this particular gift set are perfect for holiday parties, regardless of how fancy they may be, and will also work throughout the season for nearly any occasion.  The colors are Candy Gloss (champagne shimmer/vanilla flavor), Half Naked (dusty rose/buttered popcorn flavor), and Punch Bowl (hot berry pink/ raspberry chocolate flavor). You can try them individually, or mix them up to create a unique look.  Each color is somehow magically flattering on most skintones--even my ridiculously pale skin can pull off these gorgeous shades.

Each lovely set is $15--actually a great price for what you're getting--and would make a perfect gift for any gal on your Christmas list (including yourself, obviously!) The set is a new, exclusive, limited-edition product, so make sure to grab 'em while you can. I have a pretty good feeling that they're going to go quickly.

Happy shopping!

Gorgeous VS Angel Wing Necklace Set

Umm...Victoria's Secret is selling some incredible items this holiday season! Every time I check them out, I find something that I immediately lust after.

Besides their usual adorable lingerie, fragrances, and makeup products, Victoria's Secret started selling some fabulous jewelry that I'm completely head-over-heels in love with.

They've got this new pair of Swarovski Angel Wing Necklaces that are quickly making their way to the top of my Christmas list.

The two super pretty angel wing pendants have shimmering Swarovski elements and are each on a simple silvertone chain. The necklaces are classically beautiful--they have just enough bling to them to give off a fun unique sparkle, but are also small and dainty enough to be worn with nearly any outfit.

Here's a closer look:

You can easily wear the necklaces together, but I like the idea of giving one to a lovely lady in your life. They're like the grown-up version of best friends necklaces! They'd make a great gift for just about anyone on your list (including yourself, of course).

Each pair comes in a bling-tastic gift box and together cost $78.

...SO, who's going to buy me a set??!

Fashion Faux Pas: Male False Advertizing...Down There

Yes, I'm completely guilty of false advertizing myself, courtesy of the lovely push-up bras that Victoria's Secret has to offer. They do make my cleavage look pretty awesome, and I don't know what I'd do without them.

That said, upon finding The Solution's Trunk in my Junk for men, I nearly passed out with horror.

Call it a double standard, but I think this product is pretty ridiculous. Basically it's a simple cup that is worn between the actual junk and undies (or mankini) that adds some extra padding to the area.

The site promises wearers oodles of second glances, and some fun comments (like "elephant trunk," "Hercules" and even the ever-coveted "OMG!!!").

The big problem I'm imagining, is what happens when a guy gets the result he's looking for: an actual hookup? Does he ditch the bonus junk pre-boning sesh, or just wait for the girl to discover the quite literal HUGE lie?

With Christmas right around the corner, this would make a crazily hilarious gag gift, and I'm seriously considering buying some for my guy friends.

At about $12 per "package", it's pretty affordable for anyone looking to get some extra attention.

The Look For Less: Double Wrap Studded Bracelet

Bracelets are one of my all-time favorite accessories. I absolutely love wearing tons of bangles. They're a great way to make any outfit look unique.

Studded bracelets are currently at the top of my accessory list. They can toughen up whatever you're wearing and look fabulous on everyone.

Pictured above are two very similar-looking trinkets. The difference? The one on the left is an Hermes bracelet and retails for $520. On the right is an almost identical wrap bracelet from Forever 21 that costs a mere $6.80.

Quite a price difference, right?! Personally, I'm never planning on spending hundreds of dollars on a bracelet. It's just not happening. Especially since the cheaper version looks so much like the ridiculously over-priced pick.

That said, both bracelets are gorgeous. The gold plated pyramid and ring detail provides just the right amount of edge for any ensemble. The simple black leather strap allows for limitless flexibility when it comes to incorporating this piece into any outfit. It's quite honestly the perfect accessory for anyone, and would make a great gift (hint, hint).

What do you think of this look for less? Would you get wrapped up in either bracelet?

I Want This Now: VS Glam and Go Makeup Palette

Oh Victoria's Secret, how I love thee!

I constantly find myself obsessed with almost all of Victoria's Secret's makeup products. It's not really the first place you think of when you picture amazing makeup, but quite honestly, most of my fave products are from their incredible line.

My current love? The VS Glam and Go Portable Makeup Palette.

This ultimate makeup set contains an arsenal of endless glam looks, all in one convenient kit. The palette itself is small enough to keep with you at all times and is completely customizable (huzzah!). You can mix and match the different products, depending on the look you're going for.

Here's a peek at what comes in the set:

As you can see, there are tons of different options for you to fill your palette with.

Included are the following:
  • 16 eye shadows, 1 g/.03 oz
  • 4 blushes, 2.5g/.08 oz
  • 2 pencil eye liners, 1 g/.03 oz
  • 3 lip glosses, 2.5g/.08 oz
  • 2 applicators
  • 4 VS "Get the Look" tutorials
  • 1 portable palette: 5"L x 2¼"W x ¾"H

You can pick from all the fab items and create your very own custom look to keep with you all day!

The set is, not surprisingly, almost a $200 value. I've tried most of the products on their own, and I'd probably pay that price for the great quality and options that you get with this kit. However, the palette is currently on sale for the ridiculously cheap price of $20. Pretty amazing, right??!

It's a really great buy for any makeup-loving girl. Personally, I'd buy one for myself, and stock up on a bunch to give as gifts.

Looking for a palette that doesn't require any decision making? Victoria's Secret also has a gorgey new Bombshell Blooms Mini-Makeup Palette that 's retailing at $15. It's got everything you need to have on hand: 8 eyeshadow hues, 4 lipstick colors, and a gorgeous shade of blush.

Either way, Victoria's Secret is definitely worth checking out this season!

Make Your Own Ugly Christmas Sweater!

Ugly holiday-themed sweaters are something I usually take time to rant about each year. At least once. Usually multiple times, if I'm being honest.

But for some reason, I love this DIY Ugly Christmas Sweater Kit. I'm just drawn to it. I want it. I need it.

It's no secret that ugly sweater parties have been all the rage for the past ten or so years (although my boyfriend was unaware of that fact until we had a lengthy discussion about it before I wrote this). The idea is kind of fun, but simply shopping for an ugly sweater isn't nearly as fun as making your own custom unfashionable top.

The kit includes:
  • Colorblock sweater
  • White felt
  • Reindeer
  • Snowflakes
  • Pom poms
  • Glue
  • Red bows
  • Googly eyes
  • Assorted ornaments
  • Glitter gel
  • Jingle bells
  • Wrapped presents
  • Gold bead necklace
  • Sewing kit
  • Pipe cleaners
  • Stencils

You can easily create the ugliest sweater possible, and make it uniquely your own!

Each set is $29.90. Totally worth it for a fun, ugly craft. Buy a few kits and have a sweater making day with friends who share your passion for creating something fabulously awful!

How to Make Your Lashes Look Fabulous

I don't know about you ladies, but I simply will not leave the house without mascara. If I could only wear one makeup item, it would def be mascara. It has the ability to make your eyes look larger, super ladylike, and all-around gorgeous.

Since I'm so obsessed with making my lashes look luscious, I've found oodles of tips on the subject over the years.

Here are a few of my fave go-to mascara secrets:

Powder Your Lashes

An oldie, but a goodie. Using an eye shadow brush, dust powder onto your lashes between your first and second coat of mascara. The powder sticks to your lashes and the next coat of mascara grabs onto that layer. The result is fuller, thicker lashes.

Bend the Wand
Bend the brush so it is almost perpendicular to the stem of the wand. This shape makes it easier to reach the tiny hairs in the inner and outer corners, and is great for pushing your lashes up to get a lifted look.

Warm it Up
If your formula is starting to feel a little dry, add a few drops of saline solution to it and place the sealed tube in a cup of warm water. Saline solution revives flaky formulas and the warmth loosens up the product, allowing for smooth application.

Blink
For the longest lashes possible, you need to coat both sides of your lashes. Blinking softly once you reach the tips allows you to cover the topsides in mascara. Only do this for one coat to avoid clumps.

Hold the Wand Vertically
Flip the wand vertically when you're applying mascara to your bottom lashes. It’s easier to reach those tiny hairs from this angle. You’ll be able to coat them in mascara all the way down to the tips without getting mascara dots everywhere.

Use Your Finger
Gently press on your eyelid with your finger when applying mascara to your upper lashes. This pops them out ever so slightly, but just enough so that you can get the wand right into the base of the roots. Bonus? Your finger also shields your eyelid from stray marks.

Get a Clump-Free Application
Lightly clean off your mascara wand with a paper towel first. Wiping off the excess product before you begin prevents clumps. If you do get a clump, use a clean spoolie or toothbrush to brush them out.

Look Down
Look down at the mirror to do your top lashes. You’ll be able to see what you’re doing better, so you can reach every hair, and you’ll avoid dotting your eyelid in mascara.

Roll the Wand
For lifted lashes, don’t brush straight up. Instead, place the brush against the roots, curl it downward just a bit, and then pull it upward and outward.

The Perfect Advent Calendar for Us Beauty Addicts!

The holiday season is upon us, and I am completely ready to embrace it! When I was a younger, sassy little girl, my parents used to get fun advent calendars for my sister and I. I always loved them; they made the Christmas countdown even more fun. Back then, the calendars usually housed pieces of chocolate, or other fun knick knacks.

Now that I'm an adult, my choice in advent calendars has changed a bit.

This year, I'm all about Benefit's ridiculously awesome Cosmetic Advent Calendar from Sephora. As you count down the days, you find fabulous beauty must-have minis. I'm a sucker for mini makeup products anyway, as it's a great way to try out a product before purchasing the full-size version.  Another bonus? Because the items are smaller, you can easily throw a few in your purse for beautifying on the go!

The set contains the following:
- 0.25 oz “That gal” brightening face primer
- 0.25 oz the POREfessional pore minimizer
- 0.08 oz Benetint cheek and lip stain in Rose
- 0.08 oz High beam liquid highlighter
- 0.08 oz Chachatint lip and cheek stain in Sheer Mango
- 0.08 oz Posietint lip and cheek stain in Poppy Pink
- 0.04 oz Stay flawless foundation primer
- 0.1 oz They’re real! mascara
- 0.22 oz Ultra plush lip gloss in Dandelion
- 0.22 oz Ultra plush lip gloss in A-lister
- 0.22 oz Ultra plush lip gloss in Fauxmance
- 0.14 oz BADgal lash mascara
- 0.08 oz Stay don’t stray concealer and eye shadow primer in Light/Medium
- 0.1 oz Fakeup concealer in 02 Medium
- 0.1 oz It’s potent! eye cream
- 0.3 oz Total moisture facial cream
- 0.08 oz Ooh la lift eye cream
- 0.08 oz Watt’s up! highlighter
- Beauty sticky notes
- Doodle pad
- Heart-shaped paperclips
- Pinky, polka-dot hair tie
- Elastic hair band with bow charm
- Metallic silvery hair tie

I know from experience that the products in this set are all incredible. Each calendar is $99. It sounds a bit pricey, but you're actually getting a lot for your money. This is also a great gift to give any makeup loving gal you might know.

Let the countdown begin!

Who DOESN'T Need a Pair of Glitzy Heels?

I've always been a fan of anything remotely glitzy, shimmer, or glittery. It's just how I am. And I have a feeling that I'm not alone on this.

These adorable Holly Shimmer Pumps from Payless have the perfect amount of glitz. You can get them in silver or gold, if you want some extra bling, but I personally prefer the blue hue. The shimmer is much more subtle, and the color actually matches just about anything.

These are the perfect shoes to take with you from Fall to Winter.  I know, I'm not looking forward to the freezing weather either, but think of the fabulous holiday parties you can wear these bad boys to!

Each pair is a mere $29.99--totally budget friendly and completely fashionable. Love them!

The New Trench I'm Lusting After

Yes, it is quite unfortunate that freezing weather is here, yet again...I always seem weirdly surprised by this, even though it's the same issue every year.

Regardless, I am a fan of Fall fashion.

I found this super cute Laundry by Shelli Segal Trench Coat and immediately fell in love. How could I not?! It's literally the most outstanding coat I've seen in a while.

Some of the coat's stats:
  •     Machine wash
  •     Notch collar with hook and eye closure, asymmetric front zip with faux button front
  •     Belt at waist, two side zip pockets with flap detail
  •     Faux leather detail with yoke stitching, mid length
Bonus? The coat is currently on sale! Usually priced at a steep $229.00, you can now get it for $91.60! I'd say that's a pretty good deal, especially since it's the type of coat that's sure to get lots of wear and a ridiculous amount of compliments.

Things That Only Nail Polish Addicts Will Understand

Hi, my name is Alana. And I'm an addict. To nail polish.

I probably own about 200 different shades (even though my boyfriend claims that half of the pink hues I own look exactly the same--they don't).  But if you're reading this blog, chances are you understand where I'm coming from.

Here are a few nail polish facts that only polish enthusiasts will get:

1.) Your favorite day of the week is #ManiMonday.

2.) Colors are no longer "blue" or "purple." They're “Russian Navy” or “Lincoln Park After Dark.”

3.) Filling your refrigerator shelves with nail polish instead of milk is a perfectly acceptable organization strategy.

4.) You already know oodles of crazy facts about nail polish. (Yes, when it comes to different nail polish finishes, which you can also recite by heart.)

5.) You totally get Jennifer Lawrence's American Hustle character's obsession with the smell of her favorite topcoat. Even if you'll never admit it to anyone.

6.) Buying backups of polish shades you haven't used yet (but know you'll love) isn't crazy, it's planning for the future.

7.) People ask you if you feel okay when you wear the same shade of nail polish two days in a row.

8.) You frequently find "the one" (a.k.a. the perfect shade of polish), only to discover you already own several nearly identical shades at home— and you're not even a little bit mad. Because they're not the same, they're similar. Plus, you can never have to many gray-beige polishes.

9.) You let your nails "breathe" sans polish for the obligatory amount of time, but seriously contemplate not leaving the house on those days.

10.) You have thoughts (strong thoughts) about which polish is the best Essie shade ever created (the correct answer is Essie's Ballet Slippers, by the way.

Body Boo-Boo: Easting Charchol

Umm... yes. You read that correctly.  Apparently, loading your bod with charcoal is the latest fad for getting a slimmer figure.

Call me crazy, but I was under the impression that charcoal was not a good thing. Probably due to the fact that my parents raised me to believe that if I was naughty, Santa would leave me coal in my stocking. Just saying.

This isn't the first ridiculous weight loss concept that I've heard (remember the Barbie Pill?), but it's still quite bad.

Here are the details of this so-called diet.

According to Business Insider, people are now turning to activated charcoal as a health cure-all, in the hopes that it’ll do everything from “detoxing” their body (perhaps the most vague health concept of all time, right??!) to improving their skin, curing a hangover, and of course massive weight loss.

Never mind the fact that there is absolutely no scientific evidence to prove activated charcoal can achieve any of these benefits, or the fact that a quick Internet search proves that it’s usually only used to treat accidental poisonings or drug overdoses. Advocates say that the super-fine particles suck everything in your stomach to it—the problem is, doctors say it can suck out the good as well as the bad.

Sounds lovely, doesn't it?

Support Breast Cancer Awareness Month in Style!

Okay, so I have a little ulterior motive here. First, let me just say that I am all about supporting BCA month. It's a fabulous idea, and I love that my blog reaches others who might be able to help spread the word.

That said, it doesn't hurt that most of the BCA products are pink.

There. I said it.

If you haven't taken a gander at pinkEpromise, you really need to check it out immediately. They've got the most adorable products (their jewelry is to die for!) and the best part is that every product on the site donates proceeds to a Breast Cancer Foundation.  Believe it or not, but a lot of BCA-friendly products end up trying to trick you and barely donate anything at all.  But this is the real deal, ladies!

The prices are totally reasonable, and I'm literally in love with everything on the site.

LOVE PINK Fingerless Gloves ($11.95)

Pink Shimmer Necklace ($7.99)

Pink Shamballa Crystal Studs ($4.99)

All of the items on the site are super cute, so be sure to check it out for yourself!

Happy shopping!

How to Wear Red Lipstick Like a Champ!

Red lips are the quintessential sexy look, but getting it just right can be tricky. I should know--I've made my share of lipstick blunders. Whether you're just in the mood to have fun with your look, or you're going somewhere formal, red lipstick can make any outfit look extremely sexy and classy. I promise you that no matter what your skintone is, there's a perfect red lipstick out there for you!

Here are some of my current faves (pictured above):
Hourglass Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick in Icon ($28.00)
Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in F-Bomb ($22.00)
Make Up For Ever Rouge Artist Intense in Moulin Rouge ($20.00)
Marc Jacobs Beauty Lovemarc Lip Gel in Neo-Noir ($30.00)

Since I'm basically a lip product expert (I think owning over 200 lippies is proof of that), I've learned a few tips along the way. Here are a few simple steps to getting the perfect red lips:

Don't play up your eyes.
Pair red lipstick with the lightest possible eye makeup.  A little mascara and beige shadow will do just fine. It's very important to only draw attention to one area of your face, because if you go crazy with bold eyes and bold lips, chances are you'll look like a clown. Just let your lips take center stage.

Coordinate your look.

Dot a little smudge of the lipstick on the apples of your cheeks, then blend it with your fingers. It'll really pull your look together.

Be precise.
Take the time to apply your lipstick.  Whether you use a lip brush, or just apply it from the tube, take your time. Remember: Practice makes perfect!

Prevent bleeding.

No one wants to see red lipstick anywhere outside the lines of your lips themselves. To avoid this, apply a little concealer around the border of your mouth.

Avoid getting lipstick on your teeth.
This is the worst, and I've definitely done this plenty of times myself. After applying, put your finger in your mouth, purse your lips around it, then slowly pull it out to remove excess color.

Good luck, ladies!

How to Find the PERFECT Black Heels

Possibly the most popular shoes in the world, the black pump is simply something that all ladies need to own. Honestly, if you only purchase one pair of shoes in your lifetime, this should be it.

The thing about black heels is that they go with practically every outfit possible. You can pair  them with an LBD (Little Black Dress) for some extra class, or even throw them on with some dark-washed jeans and a cute top for a daytime, non-fancy occasion.

Regardless of the cost, you'll find that you will be wearing them time and time again. Think of it this way: how much money would it cost per wear? Since you'll be wearing them a lot, a pair of $300 heels would end up costing you a couple bucks each time you wear them over the course of a year! (That's a nice little trick I learned to give myself an excuse to spend ridiculous amounts of cash...it works for expensive dresses too!)

Now, for the important part--finding the perfect shoe.

Here are the key points:

Check the Materials
Matte leather not only looks the most classic, and stands the test of time, but it's also breathable. Go for leather uppers and cushioned soles that will mold perfectly to your foot.

Inspect the Quality
Make sure to take the time to examine the stitching, the attachment of the heel to the rest of the shoe, and whether or not the uppers are fully glued to the soles. Well-made pairs won't have any gaps.

Get the Right Coverage
Choose pumps that don't dip too low in the front and show tons of "toe cleavage." It just looks trashy and weird. You want the line to hit just above where your toes end. This will ensure a leg-lengthening look.

Consider the Heel
Keep the height around three inches. Personally, I even go for two inches a lot of the time due to the constant running around that I'm always doing. Three inches is perfectly acceptable, and comfortable to wear for at least a few hours. And don't go for a stacked heel. Skinnier ones are much more versatile.

Don't go too Pointy
The narrower the tip gets, the more of a pinch your tootsies will feel! You want to pick something that has a bit of a slightly rounded shape. It'll end up being much more comfortable, yet still look incredibly polished.

Find a Simple Style
Try to avoid trendy embellishments, embossing, platforms or anything else that goes in and out of style. Though trends can be fun, these particular heels are meant to stand the test of time!

Follow these tips and you'll be sure to find your very own pair of perfectly pretty pumps!

Personally, I'm OBSESSED with the pictured Teddie Pumps from Coach ($198.00). They've got everything a good black heel needs and more! If you're looking for a cheaper option, Payless has some adorable black heels--their Karmen Pumps are fabulous and are under $30.

Happy shopping!

How to Keep Breath Fresh for a Summer Makeout Sesh!

First of all, sorry for the delay in posting, lovies! I've been moving (yes...again!) and going crazy per usual.

I did want to share these awesome tips from Lowenberg, Lituchy & Kantor on how to get an irresistible and kissable smile!

Instant Whitening Tips:

  • Mix baking soda and peroxide and brush teeth to remove surface stains.  Crest Whitestrips are also a good at-home option for whitening teeth and makes them appear brighter.
  • Chew raw, crunchy veggies to help mechanically remove surface stains.
  • Wear lip shades with blue undertones. It contracts the whiteness of teeth and makes them look super bright.
  • Coat your teeth with a thin layer of Vaseline to protect them before drinking red wine or any other teeth-staining food or drink.

Freshen Breath
  • Use a tongue scraper to remove plaque from the fissures of the tongue.
  • Order a cocktail with vodka. (This is my fave tip!) It actually kills bacteria in the mouth that causes bad breath.
  • Eat parsley. It's simply magical at keeping breath fresh.
  • Rinse twice daily with an ADA-recommended antiseptic moth rinse.
Remember--a Summer fling can come and go, but bad oral hygiene can last forever.

I NEED THIS BAG!

I've always been a Kate Spade fan.  From the fabulous jewelry to the adorable and whimsical accessories, I'm just a Kate Spade fanatic!

As I was perusing the mall trying to find a cute Summer handbag, I came across the most amazing purse I've seen in a while: Kate Spade's Wicker Car Handbag.

I mean, how crazily awesome is this bag??! Not only is it cute as a button, but the wicker is a neutral color, so it actually goes with almost any outfit you can imagine.

The roof of the car doubles as the opening. For a novelty, small purse, it's actually quite roomy (14" W x 6 1/2" L x 7"D) and has just enough space to hold your necessities.

At $398, the bag's a bit on the pricey side, but for a Summer purse that rocks this much, I think it's definitely worth it!

Beauty Boo-Boo: Getting High on Lip Balm

Umm...yes.  This is a real thing. As a lip product junkie, I naturally freaked out when I discovered that teens across the country are literally getting high from Burt's Bees Lip Balm (a product I always have on me).

This stuff is a serious beauty staple, as far as I m concerned. The tinted balms add just the right amount of color, while moisturizing in an amazing way. I've yet to find other balms that work as well.

Unfortunately, people are now using the tingly lip balm in a new way. They call it "Beezin". It’s when you apply a light layer of the balm over your eyelids. Apparently, doing this adds to the experience of being drunk or high. Some also claim that it helps them stay alert.

This is honestly the most ridiculous thing I've heard of in a while.

Not only is the idea of "Beezin" stupid, it also comes with a bunch of potential health issues. The peppermint oil in the lip balm is a very strong irritant and can cause inflammation, redness, and swelling.  The eye is one of the most sensitive parts of the body. Using anything near it, other than specific eye products, is crazy.

So, my lovely readers, stick to using lip balm on your lips. It's not called "lip balm" for nothing.

That is all.

According to everyone in the makeup world, orchid is the official color of the year--and I love it! Orchid is  flattering color for most skintones, and Sephora has oodles of products to help you embrace the trend.

The Cutest LBD for Under $15!

Sometimes, Walmart really surprises me and comes up with an amazing garment. That's totally the case with their No Boundaries Sweetheart Neckline Dress.

Though the dress comes in a bunch of fun colors and patterns (the floral ones are adorable!), the black hue is my fave because it can literally be worn for any occasion.

It's also very flattering on any body type. I'm not sure if it's the case with every dress, but I did see a couple that look like they've got removable straps for those of you who want the option. The cut is simply superb. A sweetheart neckline is ultra feminine and always looks classy. Another plus--because the dress nips in at the natural waistline, then flares out into an a-line skirt, it gives the impression of an hourglass figure (which we all strive for!)

But the ultimate best part is the price.  Each dress is a mere $14.88.  A total steal as far as I'm concerned. Buy it in every color! That's my plan.

I NEED These Sunglasses!

Sunglasses are a fabulous accessory to have. I've got about ten pairs myself. That's not much, compared to my mother's collection of about a million (I'm not kidding).

They not only protect your eyes from the sun, they also have the ability to look adorable and can even be the focal point of an outfit, rather than jewelry.

This pair of pink Rubberized Hearts Sunglasses from Pac Sun are calling my name. As a lover of sunglasses and a lover of all things heart-shaped and pink, these stylish shades were practically made for me!

They're also surprisingly versatile. You can easily wear them to the beach, or give a touch of whimsy to an LBD for a daytime event.

Each pair is $14.95.

The Top 3 BEST Multi-Tasking Beauty Products

When you're looking to get the best bang for your buck, buying beauty products that can be used in multiple ways definitely helps a ton.

Over the years, I've discovered the absolute best multi-tasking beauty products out there. Trust me on this--you need these three products:

Lip & Cheek Tints, Benefit Cosmetics Benetint - This stuff is amazing. It's a classic product that works well on literally every single skintone out there. It adds the prettiest rose hue anywhere you smear it. Even though it looks dark in the bottle, it actually applies fairly sheerly and you can build up the color depending on the look you're going for. Bonus? This amazing tint is completely smudge-proof and will last the entire day.

Skin Protectants, Aquaphor Healing Ointment - Another classic product that is incredible! It works on even the most sensitive skin (even my super sensitive skin!) and has tons of uses. Obviously, it works on dry skin anywhere you need it, but you can  also use it as a lip balm (smear it over your favorite lipstick!), and a brow-tamer.

Clear Nail Polish, Seche Vite Top Coat - It's no secret that having a good topcoat is a must-have for a long-lasting mani. But it is also essential for preventing one of the most worst fashion emergencies of them all--runs in your tights. If you get a snag in your stockings, whip out a bottle of this miracle-maker and add a touch of clear polish before it gets worse. You can basically think of this topcoat as your embarrassing moment crusher. Chipped nails suck. Torn tights are even worse. This stuff will save the day from both.

Hope these tips help you as much as they've helped me!

Get Ready for Spring With This Polka Dot Dress!

I don't know about you, but I am totally fed up with cold weather! Luckily Spring is right around the corner, so I can start shopping for cute dresses in preparation.

Right now, I'm obsessed with this Coral & White Polka Dot Belted Dress from Venus. Coral surprisingly looks great on most skintones, and the white polka dots add a bit of a retro flare to the dress.

The cut is great too--since it cinches in at the natural waistline, it makes everyone look like they've got a fab hourglass figure. What more could you ask for?!

Buying this dress is just the perfect way to get ready for warm weather. And at $42, it's a great deal.

Happy shopping!

How to Pack Your Beauty Essentials

With Springtime right around the corner (hopefully!!), traveling is something that everyone is thinking about. Now's the time to plan a weekend getaway and go somewhere to relax.

But when it comes to your makeup, traveling with it can be a nightmare. There’s nothing worse than starting a vacation with foundation-covered clothes or crushed eye shadow (both of which have happened to me).

Here are a few tips to avoiding makeup mishaps, and get your cosmetics to your destination in one piece!

Separate Your Products
Before you start packing, separate all of your products into different categories, like lip colors or hair products, and put each into their own Ziplock bag. If something breaks or leaks, at least the problem is contained.

Get a Pill Box
This is a great tip. You can actually use a pill box to carry your lip products in.  Just cut off the tip with a butter knife and place it in each compartment for multiple shades on the go. I'm loving this Fashion Smart Pill Clutch ($3). It's cheap, and comes in tons of gorgey prints.

Pick Up a Pencil Case
Pencil cases are a great way to tote around brushes without bending the hairs. There are tons of cute options out there, but I'm a fan of this Ted Baker Cam Case ($30).

Use Your Socks
Packed all your products in your cosmetics bag and still have empty space? Clean (obviously!) socks make great shock absorbers.

Embrace Wipes
I use makeup wipes daily and love 'em. But if you don't, at least use them for travel. Swap your regular makeup remover for a wipe version. The package won’t leak or break--and they’re great for dirty hands, too. Try Yes to Grapefruit Brightening Facial Towelettes ($5.09). They work amazingly well and are made of mostly natural ingredients, so even the most sensitive skin can handle them.

Avoid Breakage
The powder puff or plastic sheet that came in your compact helps the product to stay in place while it travels to the store, so keep it in place for travel, too! Misplaced the puff? Insert a round makeup sponge or flat cotton pad for the same effect.

Slice Your Soap
Can’t leave home without your favorite soap? I hear ya. Slice off a piece with a knife and put it in a baggie instead of lugging the whole bar.

Use Plastic Wrap
If your foundation or moisturizer has a twist-off top, cut a piece of plastic wrap, place it over the top, and then screw on the lid to prevent spillage. And trust me--it totally works.

Bon Voyage!

The Never Ending Love Story

I've always been a HUGE Kate Spade fan, but when I saw this adorable Never Ending Love Story Clutch, I instantly knew that the bag itself was my true love!

Made to look like a book, this whimsical bag is perfect for a night out on the town. I absolutely love unique purses, and this one is simply too cute to pass up!

Here's a peek inside the bag:

It's kind of like a big wallet, but trust me--all your essentials will fit inside.

Each bag is $328. I know, I know...it's pretty steep. But a bag like this can easily go with any outfit, and would make the perfect addition to anything in your closet!

How to Wear A Statement Necklace

It took me a while to really get into this trend, but statement necklaces are one of my new obsessions.

There are so many different options out there, and wearing a bold piece of jewelry can really add some punch to any outfit.

However, there are some rules that come along with wearing these fab necklaces:

DO
Wear your hair up so it doesn't compete with your statement necklace. After all, you want the piece to shine. Of course, it’s no sin to wear your hair down with a bold necklace, but I love letting the bauble take center stage.

DON’T
Wear a statement necklace with loads of other accessories. It should be the only piece of jewelry you have on. Keep everything else very minimal.

DO
Wear over-the-top brights. Turquoise blue is hugely popular right now, but any bold hue will do. Don’t be afraid to pair bright colors with other bright colors to make your outfit really pop.

DON’T
Go overboard. A statement necklace can get totally lost among the folds of a fancy dress. It's also an issue if you wear other giant jewelry or or a dress with a crazy pattern. Let your bold necklace shine and you’ll make the biggest statement of all.

Pictured above are my fave statement necklaces of the moment. Here's where you can buy them, from left to right:
Forever 21 Regal Bib Necklace, $12.80
Banana Republic Petite Floral Necklace, $59.50
J. Crew Stone Burst Pearl Necklace, $125.00

EVERYONE Needs This Dress!

I am absolutely in love with Victoria's Secret's new Faux-Wrap Dress. I've probably said it a million times, but wrap dresses (or "faux" wrap dresses), are super flattering on every figure out there. Because it cinches in at the natural waistline--the tiniest part of most ladies' bods--the eye is immediately drawn to it. Not only do you look tinier because of this, you also look like you have the perfect hourglass figure that we all strive for.

I'm also loving how this dress can be worn for basically any event. You can dress it down, with flats and minimal jewelry, or glam it up! Any time you can't think of what you want to wear, this should be your go-to dress.

Because it has long sleeves, the dress is also seasonless--another win in my book! Wear it now with tights, then wear it in the Summer on its own with some cute, strappy sandals.

Another bonus? You can get the dress in four colors: black, plum, blue, and pink. Personally, I think that it's impossible to have too many little black dresses, but the other colors all look fabulous too.

The dress is $79.50. A little pricey, but totally worth it!

Fashion Faux Pas: the Miracle Bra for Men

Yes, this is a real thing. FunkyBod.com is selling ridiculous bra-esque "muscle enhancers" to any guy who wants a bit of a lift.

The site claims that the Funky Bod Muscle Enhancer Top is basically the best thing since sliced bread. It is supposed to accentuate the pectorals, shoulders, biceps, and triceps. And that's not all! Funky Bod also says that the top gives the effect of improved posture.

But the bottom line is that the top is padded. They even say on their website that, "Worn as a normal undershirt garment, the Funky Bod top is a great confidence booster for men in the same way a padded bra works for women.".

Am I the only one who thinks this is incredibly crazy??!

The guy in the picture looks stupid, and if I ever saw someone wearing one of these man-bras, I'd probably go on a shooting spree.

Men: Please refrain from purchasing this. You will look like an idiot. I promise you that.

Let's Go Steady

Valentine's Day is rapidly approaching...I'm lucky enough to have a few valentines in my life, but even if I didn't have people to drop hints to (yes, Dave--this is a hint), I'd probably be my own valentine just so I could get this super cute Let's Go Steady Necklace from the ever-classy Kate Spade.

I mean, what's not to love about it??! The necklace is dainty, and goes with every outfit imaginable. I'm honestly obsessed with it! And think about it: if someone gave you this and actually asked you to "go steady", wouldn't you basically have a seizure of delight??!

I really wouldn't mind going steady with myself, if it meant getting to wear this gorgey bauble. I'd probably go steady with just about anyone, even the fashion-challenged, if they bought this for me.

Each necklace is $78. But the cuteness is priceless!

Nail Polish--it's Not Just for Nails!

I own a ridiculous amount of nail polish. The picture is probably about 5% of all the different polishes I have in my collection. I love painting my nails--I do it almost daily--but there are also bunches of other ways to use nail polish that doesn't involve giving yourself a fab mani or pedi.

Prevent Jewelry from Tarnishing
I love fun costume jewelry, but seeing that hint of green that winds up on my fingers isn't pretty. Prevent this faux pas by painting a clear coat on the inside of that goegey ring you just bought, and you'll be good to go.

Color Code Objects
Use different colored polishes to paint objects that look similar so you can tell them apart. Paint different shades on your set of keys so your roommate stops grabbing yours by mistake!

Paint the Sole of Your High-Heels (think Christian Louboutin):
One of my friends did this, and it's actually a fabulous idea. It's a super easy (and cheap!) way to model your shoes after the highly coveted brand, and give them a fresh new look. You don't have to go with the classic red, either. Revealing a glitzy purple hue on your soles looks just as great.

Stop Runs in their Tracks
This is a classic use for clear nail polish, and it works better than anything else. You can stop runs in stockings by dabbing polish at both ends. This way you can get more wear out of your fave tights, even after a tiny tear.

Cover Up Your Scuffs
Cover up a scratch on scuffed shoes or boots by applying a coat of black or brown (or whatever color your shoes are) nail polish to your shoes. Make sure to apply a top coat so that the polish lasts.

There are tons of other ways to use your polish, but these are the things I tend to do most often. It's also a great excuse to go out and buy another pink polish when your boyfriend simply doesn't understand that owning 20 different pink hues is totally necessary.

Everything You Need for Perfect Skin

For me, wintertime means having crappy skin. If you're an avid reader, you know that I have ridiculously awful skin. I have fairly severe eczema, I'm pale, and my skin is just constantly dry and lifeless. Over the years, I've found some products that help my numerous skin issues, but if you're someone who wants to take extra care of your skin, but don't know exactly what products to use, try out Sephora's Skin Bender set.

Rather than buying full-sized products to try (and end up hating half of whatever you bought), this kit delivers deluxe samples of Sephora's best selling skincare products that cater to any skin problem you may have. It's especially great for this time of year--no one has awesome skin in the middle of Winter. And if you do, then I officially hate you.

Here's what comes in the set:
- 0.23 oz Algenist Advanced Anti-Aging Repairing Oil
- 1.9 oz Bliss® High Intensity 24-'Heaven'™ Healing Body Balm
- 0.17 oz Dr. Jart Ceramidin™ Cream
- 1 oz First Aid Beauty Ltd. Ultra Repair Cream
- 0.5 oz Josie Maran 100% Pure Argan Oil
- 0.67 oz Korres Greek Yoghurt Advanced Nourishing Sleeping Facial
- 0.3 oz L'Occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream
- 0.5 oz Ole Henriksen Sheer Transformation®
- 1 oz Origins Checks and Balances™ Frothy Face Wash
- 0.5 oz Peter Thomas Roth CC Cream SPF 30 in Light-Medium
- Cosmetic bag

All of these products promise to deliver gorgeous, radiant skin. Each kit is $48 (and is a $115 value), so it's a fantastic deal. If you find a product that you love, you can buy the full-size version.  And if you hate anything in the kit, it's not like you wasted oodles of cash on it. Win-win!

Makeup Mishaps: 5 Mistakes You Might Be Making

We've all made makeup mistakes in our past. It's just something we all do. But what you might not know, is that you could still be making little mistakes that make a huge difference in your appearance.

Okay, so the picture to the left is a bit extreme. I highly doubt that there's anyone who looks like this that is currently reading my blog. But the picture shows just about every possible makeup mistake you can make.

I've learned a few things over the years, so I'm passing my knowledge onto you. Here's a list of the most common problems (most of which, I've made myself):

1. Caked On Foundation
This is the worst. When your skin is acting up, it's super tempting to just slap on tons of foundation to try and mask any issues you may have. The problem is, you're covering up all the good along with the bad! Foundation should really only be used to even out your skintone. Concealer should be doing all the heavy-duty covering on blemishes and other areas that need it. Make sure to only dot it on the areas that need help, and blend a lot. To ensure your foundation doesn't go on too thick or cakey, try a tinted moisturizer, or foundation that has has a sheer finish. Try out Olay Fresh Effects Flawless Finish BB Cream.

2. Harsh Eyeliner
Eyeliner is a great way to define your eyes and really make them pop. That said, it's easy to get carried away and apply way too much. The result?Iit can actually make your eyes look smaller, which is probably not a look you're going for. To avoid making this mistake, stay away from black liner in general, and go for shades of brown, gray, or even a muted purple instead. It makes it more difficult for you to apply more than needed. Another trick--try using an eyeshadow s liner and apply it with an angled brush. It's easier to blend that way, and looks great. Try out L'Oreal Infallible Eyeshadow in Bronzed Taupe--bronze is a fab color for any skintone.

3. Overdone, or Underdone, Eyebrows
Eyebrows make a huge difference in the look of your whole face. Honestly, if you don't take care of your brows, it's basically pointless to do anything else to your face--they make that much of a difference. The best way to bring natural definition to your brows is to fill them in with a matching brow powder or eyeshadow and an angled liner brush. Eyebrow pencils usually come out looking way too harsh, and don't blend well. NYC Browser Brush-On Brow Kit is my pick for a brow-tastic look.

4. Mismatched Foundation
Yes, another foundation faux pas. We've all seen it and we've all been that girl at least once.  I cannot stress enough how important it is to find the right shade for you. Finding an exact shade match is not easy by any means, but it can definitely be done. I'd recommend going into your local department store or Sephora and getting shade-matched by a professional. If you can't do that, try out L'Oreal's True Match Foundation (it comes in liquid and powder forms). You can get pretty close to an exact match because there are so many colors, and they even cater to the undertones in your skin.

5. Skipping Skincare
Before you even apply makeup, or do anything else, please please please take care of your skin! Wash off your makeup at night and always use a moisturizer--it creates the perfect "canvas" for your makeup. Remember: All skin needs hydration and there are plenty of oil-free formulas out there! Trader Joe's Nourish Oil-Free Antioxidant Facial Moisturizer is fantastic. It really works for all skintones.

Of course there are tons of other makeup mistakes that occur on a regular basis, but these are the big ones. If you do everything on the list, you should have a face that looks absolutely gorgeous!

I FINALLY Got a Gel Manicure!

I'm totally indecisive when it comes to nail polish. I even like to paint my nails every day, if possible. So, I've been avoiding getting a gel manicure because you basically have to commit to a color for two weeks. For me, that's a fairly large chunk 'o time.

But my friend was going to Princess Nails (in Concord, NH) to get acrylics put on, and I figured I'd tag along and maybe get a regular manicure myself. That simply didn't happen. The second I walked though the door, Emily (who is super nice) showed me oodles of colors and finishes that can be done in gel-form.  I had no idea there were so many options! I seriously looked through ll the different colors for about 20 minutes before deciding on the gorgeous OPI Cajun Shrimp hue. It's a gorgeous coral, with hints of pink, and has the tiniest bit of shimmer to it.

Since I've always doe my nails practically daily, I usually don't think anything of picking at my nails and peeling of the polish. So, I was a little worried that my picking would mess up the gel manicure and it wouldn't last for the two weeks that's the norm for most people. But no matter how hard I picked at my nails, or whatever chemicals I had near it, the color didn't chip, or get messed up in the least! The fact that it lasted so long on someone like me speaks volumes, not only of the polish itself, but also shows how amazing Princess Nails is!

I'm pretty much addicted to gel manicures at this point. If you haven't tried it, you need to! Price-wise, a regular gel manicure at Princess Nails is $25. Not bad for two weeks of gorgeous nails!

Disclosure: This post contains a sample/discount for review consideration. My priority is to you, and I honor that commitment by being honest! If you have any questions about this, please email me.
